the moment I stop thinking about it. Which means I will constantly be afflicting my (what I now estimate to be tens of) readers, with my thoughts on the subject of weight. My weight. Cheezus, will it ever not be an issue?
Y’see, I got my panties in a bunch after I saw a picture of Heidi Klum in a bikini. Dear consumers of paparazzi photos…she is not the norm. Yes, she’s a mom who gave birth to her 4th child a mere 9 month ago…But see, it’s her job to be physically superior. And I’m willing to bet that she has, if not one, then 2 people helping her with her kids. And, I’m willing to bet she has a trainer, and maybe even someone who cooks for her. And, maybe Seal is a stay-at-home-dad these days. He’s probably ordering take-out macrobiotic dinners. The majority of moms don’t have this level of resources available to them. I really really wish the media would just stop all the photos of supermodels who got back into awesome shape after having their babies. The rest of us just can’t compare, and measuring ourselves to that standard is cruel.
The issue for me, is that I just can’t seem to come up with the magical formula. I keep reading about different techniques…There’s the eating healthy whole foods, and exercising, and getting plenty of rest. Which seems simple and self evident…but, many smart and motivated people have trouble making that one stick. There’s always the slowly dying before our eyes Hollywood starlet technique of plenty of smoking, coffee and vodka cranberries, throwing up, and running from the photographers. Lastly, there’s just the exercise junkies who run until they pass out or take multiple gym classes marathon style.
There’s only one option for a responsible parent….healthy option #1. It’s simple, put down the goldfish crackers and cheese sticks and suck it up.
Lentil soup, that is.

I have to admit, I like looking at celebrity photos but I agree with you in the sense that I hate the idea that people, specially guys will look at celebrity mothers and thing “See, they can lose weight. Normal women must just be lazy or something”.

it’s not brain surgery. 1.eat less, 2.move more. barring a serious medical issue, if you’re not losing weight then you’re not following 1 or 2.
