Project Pink update

So the table came out, well – fabulous.  Only, I should have let it dry more before I put Clara’s lamps on it.  Some tiny paint pieces pulled off.  But the best part is…I just sanded the areas down, primed them again…and am gonna paint them again – and then let dry out really well.

Like nothing ever happened, nothing to see here, I love that.

Dark brown, beat up – not so girly table with drawers.

Roughing up and sanding off the varnish…not nearly as fun as you’re thinking.

Primed and painted with one coat.

I think it might be ready.

The reveal.  I think she likes it.  Now, I just need the lamp to stop sticking to the top.  I may have over-coated it.

I had some spots I needed to touch up on Clara’s ceiling with the glitter glaze.  Well, when I painted the whole ceiling, I had carefully mixed and measured out the glitter and glaze.  This time, I just tossed a little of each in a small container and started touching up.   Mistake.  I had too much glitter this time and now some areas along the edges are way more glitterific.

Will fix.  Fortunately it’s not obvious.  But it bugs me.

I got the idea while I was roaming through the Benjamin Moore store.  They had some catalog displays showing glitter paint.  They didn’t have any this particular store – but it got my thinking.  French Lilac and glitter…It’s like frosting on the cake…a giant purple sparkly cake.

I came home and found this blog; another mom, who had a successful glitter application, Sparkle is right.  She painted her daughter’s bedroom walls with glitter and glaze.  Awesome.  I decided to paint the ceiling with an opalescent white glitter.  It’s looking pretty sparkly!

I’ll update more as project glitter continues.

One SNAFU.  Clara decided she didn’t like the glitter on the test wall…just the ceiling.   So I painted over the test wall.  Mmmmmm, yeah that didn’t work. Note:  Never paint matte latex over a coat of glaze while glitter complicates the matter – will commence scraping later today…

Instead of blogging about painting – I’ve actually been painting.  I have to say, the move to action has been quite rewarding.  I’m painting my daughter’s room a pretty shade of lilac.  It’s super girly and she loves it.

I think the Benjamin Moore store might be my new favorite place too. Everything in the place catches my eye.  It’s paint chip after paint chip of possibility.   I stopped in front of the painter’s paints yesterday and seriously considered their purchase.  I put them back, I’m not a professional, and the last time I wore painter’s paints I had a giant comb sticking out of my back pocket.

Back to painting – Got my light, got my drop cloth, got the hits station playing on the crackling FM radio – Hall and Oates, Journey, and DefLeppard.  Perfecto.
